King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals awarded Ashraf Ehsan Al-Fagih (Arabic: فقيه - أشرف إحسان جعفر) a BS degree in 2000. He was a major of Computer Engineering, a program offered by the department of Computer Engineering at the College of Computer Science & Engineering.

Ashraf E. Al-Fagih was born on September 19, 1977 (6th of Shawwal, 1397 Hijri), in Cairo, Egypt; and was mostly raised in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.


He earned a B.Sc. degree with Second Honors in Computer Engineering in 2000 from King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), before joining its Information and Computer Science Dept. as a Graduate Assistant. In 2001, he received a scholarship to Texas A&M University (TAMU) where he earned a Master of Computer Science degree in 2004. He was appointed as a Lecturer at KFUPM later that year.


In January 2007, he was admitted to the Ph.D. program at the School of Computing - Queen's University and has been, since, a member of the Telecommunication Research group under the supervision of Dr. Hossam S. Hassanein.


Ashraf has a brief working experience with (SBM), the Saudi branch of IBM Corp. His academic interests include Celluler, Wireless Ad Hoc and Sensor Networking, Security Issues and Quantum Computing.


In addition, he is considered as one of few Arab science fiction writers with three published story collections. He is also a regular contributor to several Saudi newspapers and magazines, and works currently on establishing himself as a recognized photographer where some of his works were published and awarded. Mr. Al-Fagih's memberships include IEEE, IEEE Computer Society, the Council of Saudi Engineers and the Association of Muslim Scientists and Engineers (AMSE). He is also a member of the Arab Union For Internet Writers, the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) and the Saudi Photographers' House in Jeddah.
